- Isabella Swan: One of the Protagonists and narrators. She will do anything to spend eternity with her true love Edward Cullen.
- Edward Cullen: A vampire, completely in love with Bella Swan. He wants to marry Bella, but he does not want her to become a vampire, because he believes that when somebody becomes a vampire, they lose their soul and he loves Bella so much that he refuses to do so.
- Jacob Black: One of the protagonists and narrators. Jacob is Bella's childhood friend, the third member of the Edward, Bella, Jacob love triangle, and a werewolf. He is also a Native American who lives on a reservation in La Push. He is a werewolf. (Duh)
- Renesmee Cullen: Bella and Edward's daughter. She is half-human, half-vampire. Her "power" is that she can tell or "show" someone something by just placing her hand on them. Very special and the reason the Volturei arrive. She has Bella's eyes and curly hair. She has blood running through her veins, and is not venomous. She grows and learns at a rapid rate. People are attracted to her because she is so adorable. Everyone but Bella and, sometimes, Edward call her Nessie. Bella almost died during her pregnancy and while she was giving birth to Renesmee
- Leah Clearwater: Seth Clearwater's sister. She's the only female werewolf. The other werewolves find her annoying. She was in love with Sam, and then her cousin Emily came to visit and Sam imprinted on Emily. She still loves Sam and she joins Jacob's "pack" to escape the pain.
- Charlie Swan: Bella's father. He did not raise her, but he took care of her in her last high school years. He lives in forks and he works as a police officer. He is just like Bella. He is "Nessie"'s grandfather.
- Alice Cullen: Edward's "sister" and Jasper's mate. Her "power" is that she can see the future as long as werewolves or half-vampires half-humans are not directly involved. She's happy and cheerful, with spiky black hair and a slender, small body.
- Emmett Cullen: Emmet is Edward's "brother". He does not have a power, but he is very strong. He is in a relationship with Rosalie Cullen.
- Jasper Cullen: Edwards "brother". He is in a relationship with Alice Cullen. He has the ability to control peoples.mood
- Dr. Carlisle Cullen: Edward's "father" and a surgeon at the local hospital. Esme's mate. His "power" is his self-control. He is the oldest vampire, therefore exhibits very good self control. He takes care of Bella when she goes through all the difficulties of being pregnant with their baby.
- Esme Cullen: Edward's mother. Esme is married to Carlisle Cullen, who is a doctor. She is very wealthy, but kind hearted. She likes antiques and is very giving.
- Seth Clearwater: Member of Sam's pack and friend to Bella and Edward. Brother to Leah Clearwater. He's very carefree and relaxed. Hr left with Jacob and is now in Jacobs "pack".
- Sam Uley: Leader of the main pack. Jacob is the rightful leader and breaks off to form a mini pack.
- Billy Black: Jacob's father and Charlie Swan's best friend. Lives in La Push with his son, Jacob Black. He's in a wheelchair and his ancestors are descendants of the wolf shape-shifters.
- Tanya: The leader of the Denali coven. Part of the Cullens' "extended family." Has strawberry blonde hair and likes Edward.
- Jared: Member of Sam's wolf pack. Friend of Jacob.
- Jane: Member of Volturi. Her power is creating the illusion of pain. Has a brother. Jane has angelic looks, and in appearance seems an innocent child.
- Embry: Member of Sam's pack and Jacob's friend.
- Demetri: Part of the Volturi guard. Has the power to track down outlaws in the vampire world.
- Alec: Member of Volturi and is Jane's sister. He has the ability to make others feel nothing—and to shut down the senses. His power appears as a creeping fog.
- Aro: One of the leaders of the Volturi. Always has a pleasant, polite attitude, when in reality he is not so.
- Jason Jenks: Add a description of this character.
- Marcus: One of the three elders of the Volturi.
- Siobhan: Soibhan is a member of the irish coven who's ''superpower'' is super self control.
- Blondie: Jacob's nick name for Rosalie.
- Rosalie Cullen: Edwards sister. She has no special "powers" and is currently in a relationship with Emmet Cullen
- Caius: One of the Volturi.
- Paul: One of the werewolves of Sam's pack.
- James: Victoria's dead lover. She wanted Bella as revenge.
- Renata: Member of the Volturi's guard.
- Rachel: Jacob's sister.
- Victoria: She is a red-headed vampire and she is out for revenge on Edward for killing the leader of her coven/lover. Now she wants to kill Edward`s mate, Bella. An eye for an eye.

- Mike Newton: A human that went to school with Bella and is friends with Bella. Has been in love with Bella since her first day of high school

- Kebi: A member of the Egyptian coven. Amun is her mate.
- Kim: Jared Cameron imprinted on her in Eclipse. She sat next to him at school.
- Senna: Part of the Amazonian coven. Described to as tall and intimidating, with dark skin, long hair, and clothes made of animal fur.
- Collin Littlesea: One of the youngest in Sam's wolf pack. In Eclipse, they are said to have phased at the age of thirteen.
- Garrett: Garrett, a tall, rangy vampire with ruby eyes and long sandy hair, is an adventurer, and alludes to being an American Patriot.
- Brady Fuller: The other youngest of Sam's wolf pack. In Eclipse, they are said to have phased at the age of thirteen.
- Phil Dwyer: Bella's step dad. He is a baseball player and he travels with his wife, Bella's mother, Renee Dwyer.

- Emily Young: Emily Young is Sam Uley's fiancée and second cousin to Leah and Seth Clearwater. Though she and Leah are only second cousins, it is said that they were like sisters when they were young. Described as a cheerful, friendly person.
- Peter: Part of the American nomads. Peter is Jasper's good friend, and helped Jasper escape his previous life as a general of newborn vampires. Though he feeds on human blood, he does not agree with the execution of newborns after they have outlived their usefulness. In the past, Jasper lived with Peter and Charlotte, but chose to leave because of his ability to sense his human prey's emotions.

- Vampire: a preternatural being, commonly believed to be a reanimated corpse, that is said to suck the blood of sleeping persons at night. who has golden or red or black eyes and palewhite rock hard skin
- Werewolf: a human being who can form into a wolf, while retaining human intelligence.
- Imprinting: something members of the wolf pack do when they find, their perfect mate, or the person they are suppose to be with, werewolves can imprint with females of any age at any time and it is hard for a wolf to be away from the one they imprint on once the imprinting happens. The wolf feels great loyalty to the person they've imprinted on and a need to protect that person.
- Coven: A group of people who consider themselves family ( like the Cullens. They aren't real family but consider themselves one)
Errata edit
Carlisle says (chapter 2, 'Long Night') "Covens fought to the last man - were utterly decimated." Decimated means detroyed by one tenth. It should be "Were utterly destroyed."
*this is a very common mistake*
On page 658 Stephan says, "Nor is the mind reader is exactly necessary." The second is is unnecessary.
On page 472 Edward says to Alice, "Why you don't you just tell me who wins?" The first you is unneeded.
on page 678 Bella's narration runs thus, "As long Jacob was with Renesmee, she would be all right." There should be an as after long as well.
