“Stephenie Meyer was apparently paid by the word, which explains this silly and way-bloated melodrama. The narration sensibly bounces from Bella on her wedding day to Jacob during Bella’s pregnancy, to Bella for the end, but it was about 300 pages too long. Jacob comes off as a whiny brat (again), Bella does her center-of-the-universe, “everything wrong is my fault and you all must hate me” schtick like a freaking broken record (again) and Edward experiments with total spinelessness, so the middle third of the book is painful. Once the little one with the stupid name shows, the action picks right up. Do yourself a favor: read the first 7 chapters, any ONE of the middle 25 chapters, and the last 150-200 pages; you’ll get the full effect and save yourself a TON of time! ”
