“STICKY ICKY BOOGER BUGS by Sherry Frith, illustrated by Carol Newell Walter is a charming Children's Picture Book/Cystic Fibrosis. Age range: 0-7. A charming and educational tale of a young boy, Kory, who battles Cystic Fibrosis. This lively story is based on the author's own struggles to help her boys better understand their disease, and cope with the their battle to keep the sticky icky boogers away. What an amazing tale, which beautifully explains for young children and parents alike how to better understand the terms, their struggles, and their never ending battle with Cystic Fibrosis. While, at this time there is no cure for this progressive disease, there are ways to help avoid the hospital, and live a more fulfilling life as they battle the sticky icky booger bugs. I would highly recommend this title to not only parents, children, but to educators as well as health care providers. What a wonderful way to help children better understand their disease. As a retired health care provider who worked with children with Cystic Fibrosis, I wished this title was available when I was working. A great read aloud! Oh, I forgot to mention the delightful illustrations. Educational as well as entertaining! Well done, Ms. Frith!! I absolutely loved it and can not say enough about this title!! A must for any and all health care providers, educators, parents, children, and grand-parents and anyone else who wishes to learn more on Cystic Fibrosis. How do you talk to children about Cystic Fibrosis? Explaining it can be very difficult but a new picture book called Sticky Icky Booger Bugs by Sherry Frith is perfect for answering questions children might have. The book tells the story of what life is like for a boy with Cystic Fibrosis. It is the type of picture book that is extremely important to share with young people because it enables feelings of empathy. The book explains what life is like with Cystic Fibrosis, in a way that children can understand.
I firmly recommend this book be used in elementary classrooms of all grades.
The text and illustrations complement each other perfectly. This would be the perfect book to read-aloud in any classroom.
