An improvement over the previous installment in almost every way. The book ran a lot smoother and I got through it in about three days, as opposed to weeks with the first one. It could possibly be because of a more interesting plot and better characters. Madeline is still a fantastic narrator,...

This is a little bit better than Read's debut mystery (Field of Darkness) but the premise and the characters are not very believable.

An improvement over the previous installment in almost every way. The book ran a lot smoother and I got through it in about three days, as opposed to weeks with the first one. It could possibly be because of a more interesting plot and better characters. Madeline is still a fantastic narrator, and her unique narrative gives the book a very different feel to it. The characters are well thought out, and the dialogue is believable. I'm definitely planning on reading Ms. Read's next book. She seems to be getting much better with each installment, and I'm excited to see how the next book is.

The writing was very simple, but I enjoyed the plot for its suspense-like traits.

This was CRAZY! And I loved the kids in this book. They were raw and not very eloquent at all but I think that just makes things all the more realistic in the end. I feel like there are still people who would do anything to try to make their "disturbed" kids better and not question a guy who is obviously off his rocker. This is a nice thriller/mystery.

    GREAT book!!

Madeline gets a job at the "Crazy School" a school for very troubled teens. Their therapeutic methods are unconventional to say the least. But then people start dieing, and she is the first one blamed!

When the teacher is a former student of the Crazy School, she knows what it is like to be locked up in this institution. Adult

This another second book in a series that is at least as good as the first (Field of Darkness) if not better. It is not a typical mystery, as it takes some time to build up to the murder and then has a fairly fast resolution, but it is so well done. Madeline Dare, ex-debutante and child of a now paranoid hippie, has taken a job teaching at a special school for teens with mental problems. She is just settling in and connecting with her students when she starts to wonder about some of the tactics the school employs to discipline students and staff. I really can't say much about the plot because I don't want to ruin it for anyone else. Let's just say that Madeline is witty and funny, the kind that wrongs true rather than the sometimes over the top humor of someone like Evanovich, and the story is well plotted and executed.

I enjoyed this book more than A Field of Darkness by the same author. If I hadn't read this book than I might not have checked out any other books after reading A Field of Darkness. This book kind of reminded me of the movie Disturbed with Katie Holmes

Excellent read! It did start off a bit slow but quickly recovered into a very ingrossing plot with characters you can relate to and an ending I did not see coming at all! I highly recommend this read. Can't wait for the next Maddie Dare book!
