This book was good. It was enough to keep me interested. But I enjoyed the other books in this series more. I think it's because Jean-Claude wasn't in this one much and he is one of my favorites. Still worth the read. :)

More of Jason's past is shown in this novel. Because he esembles the son of the governor, his mistaken identity causes a near death experience. Anita again looks for a personal definition of love that will put her at ease with all the men she must service. Richard loses some of his rage and acquires a little ardeur. It will be interesting to read about this in future novels. I have come to the end of this series until the next is released in June. I don't know what I'll do with out my Anita Blake and.or Merry Gentry fix.

Yes, more men in the menagerie either it's becoming old hat and I am just used to it. Then again Hamilton could just be writing better stories and handling the relationships better. Oh and there was a nice like of UBER description, which I appreciated. lol I am not prudish, but the books were getting a bit overly raunchy and boring because of it. There wasn't any story progression because of them. I don't buy purely Erotica books because they're just boring. Plain and simple, there's only so many ways you can describe being tag teamed by whatever amount of men. heh

    I'm done bitching

i think that this book is way to old for someone in high school. it is very explisit. the sex sceans that lorel k describes could be less detailed and the book does not give any insite on anita who is the main character. i think that if lorel had put a diffrent level to the story it would have made the story alot more interesting. i think that basing a book on describing what she does in her love life does not make up a good solid story. her books in this sires have gone from a mystery to who is she going to f*** next. don't get me wrong i think that she is a good wrighter and that her way of writing is good, but what she writes about has alot to be reconcidered. The story line started out to be a good one when she started the siries. lorel has pulled away from a good story line to being a base of good stories.

Still not as good as the book before it, and it leaves an open for at least 5 more books in the Anita Blake series...because it's gonna take at least that many books for LKH to sort out Anita's love life. I enjoyed this series because the main character started out tough and then slowly started to become one of the monsters herself. There is too much conflict with too many characters and everone is pissed off at each other all the time. In this book, Richard is able to gain a vampiric ability and gives Anita back some of her rage...instantly calming him back to the Richard he was. In my opinion, he weakens their triumvate and Nathan is climbing up to a better status for me...but the answer for everything is just to strip and then have Damian come and touch whoever is upset. Getting old. Mother of Darkeness is close to waking up and Anita is still trying to get a handle on her own new powers. I did enjoy the look at Jason's life, but then Anita gained another animal to call. Will she turn into a panwere? Or will she have a line of lovers to give her beast to so she can still try and hold onto her dignity? I forsee, as I already said, at least another 5 books to get to some sort of even level.

Terrible- it does not even merit one star. It seemed it might hold some promise- it did- it fulfilled its promise to be a zillion times worse than the last(I did not think that was possible). Not only was it filled with pointless love scenes(again), the constant woe is I, poor me-what shall I do angst was beyond annoying. Is Anita revisiting/experiencing her teen years? Did I really need to read pages of dialog of this? Did I need to read pages trying to excuse the awful sex scenes b/c of the "ardeur"? Really, we get it, enough already. I was so beyond tired of the "oh no, it was ardeur, I cannot believe it made me have sex with numerous strangers for six pages & everywhere but the moon" whimpering. Really, you did not know? B/c I figured that out as soon as they were introduced. What's next? Aliens? Need another animal to call? How about a turtle or hippo? Jackal? Crane? Wait, how about a skunk? Maybe Big Foot, Loch Ness and a unicorn will roll up & they can have a mythical creature orgy. Why not? She's going to run out random dudes if she keeps this up. The were so many elements within the book that could have been expanded to make this book great(Expanding Jason's character, return of Belle Morte, look-alike confusion...) but instead it continued on its downward spiral. Worse yet, I reread the 1st book before I read this one...How could such an enjoyable series go so bad?

This was my least favorite Anita blake book.It was worth reading once but I would not reresd it as I would the others. There was not enough action , too much emotional stuff going on. Not enough Jean Claude,LOL It is short and I got through it in one day, I could not have taken all the
    "memories" much longer.

This was a welcome addition to the Anita Blake series, however, I wish there was a little more action. The last action scene goes by so fast you're left wondering if you've missed something. I definitely think it could have been made into a longer novel.
