“True, there is Merry Gentry, but I'd have to say that as far as plot goes, no matter how bad Anita's gets it will always be more then Merry's. The poor girl only ever gets to have crazy fairy sex! And while that is entertaining, the girl needs a bit more backbone (even I wouldn't let that many guys tell me what to do and I'm not a fairy princess no matter how much I wish). Even so, I do look forward to November and the new release.”
“I so agree with you. What are the chances that LKH reads discussions such as this and actually takes such comments into consideration? I'll keep my fingers crossed that she is getting similar feedback. But, I must say that even with all of my recent complaints, I do love her writing. LKH has created some fantastic characters, and personally, for me, characters hook me more than plot does. I will continue reading Anita Blake books, even if it is the same sex scene over and over and over and over again just because I HAVE to know what is going on in Anita's life.”
“I can honestly say, this is the first Anita book that I've had to FORCE myself to finish. It was just painful. Now, I'm okay with a sex scene here and there (not throughout), but I'm sick of them rehashing and analyzing said sex scene for the next 5 chapters, constantly building Anita's ego up, and then having sex again because she's been placated. It's a really horrible circle and LKH needs to get out of it. What happened to the actual plot and not all this ardeur mess? I get it... Anita's a succubus. On to something new, or in this case, let's go back to the old. I miss the books with the mysteries and hard-boiled detective feel to them. I miss the zombie raisings. And Kim Harrison and Kelley Armstrong overtook LKH's writing abilities long ago. Patricia Briggs as well.”
“Can't wait for that!! Any idea how long till that one comes out? I didn't notice anything about it on her website, just that the new Merry Gentry will be out in November.”
“Edward is fantastic character. Obsidian Butterfly is probably my favorite Anita book. It's jammed packed full of Edward, vampires, were-animals and plot. It's Anita at her best.”
“I wish this book had more plot- as I was reading it, I realized I was almost at the end, and nothing had happened but sex. I miss Edward-wish she would bring him back. It would be nice if she found a way to kill off Richard-he is way too whiny to have all the power he has, and I don't buy him as ulfric of the pack-someone in the pack would have killed him by now.”
“I have read all of LKH's books and loved them but I'm starting to get a little disapointed. The first Anita books were amazing. I loved her work with the police and there was always a great story to each book. Lately her books focus way to much on Anita being a supernatural phenomenon and her crazy sex life and not enough on a real plot line. I don't even remember the last time she raised a zombie. Plus, I really hope Richard catches a stray bullet soon because I can't handle anymore of him.”
“Agree, agree, agree! From Kim Harrison's first book I KNEW she was going to give LKH a run for her money, and Kelley Armstrong is pretty much blowing her out of the water. Don't get me wrong, I love Anita, and can't wait for Merry's next book, but Armstrong's imagination is AMAZING!”
“The comment is in the comment: Based on my own reading of all three, complete reading of all they've published, LKH is no longer queen of the genre, Kim Harrison and Kelley Armstrong have become much better writers and much better story-tellers. I'm asking is anyone agrees or disagrees...”
