“Jack Taylor is a very dark anti-hero. He is an alcoholic (although he stopped drinking in this novel), he is brutal, and he kills people in this book. The setting is Galway and modern Ireland. Jack Taylor is asked by his friend Ridge to help her with the investigation of the crucified boy. When his sister is killed by being burned alive in her car, he tells her to find out about their older brother who supposedly killed a woman in a hit-and-run accident. The children and the husband of the killed woman are on a revenge trip, trying to get to the older brother who went underground in England. The novel is very gritty, it's not a happy book and it's ended with a gut-punch, because Ridge finds out she has breast cancer.”
