Didn’t Like It“This book didn't grab me, put it down half way through and just stopped reading it. The characters were cute but enough with the whole Merlin wizard realm stuff, they would've been fine without all of the Camelot stuff. Not my thing i guess.” see full review » see other reviews » |
“I really like this first book in Shayla Black's new series. The world she is creating is really interesting - I can't wait to find out more.”

I immediately fell in love with Marrok, not because he was the typical sexy, immortal warrior but because he’s set his sights on breaking the curse so he can finally die. Right from the start, you don’t want him to accomplish his fatal mission. Add a descendent of Morganna of Arthurian fame who doesn’t know she’s the key to breaking his curse, a nice twist to the “soul mate” and “fated attraction”, and you’ve got conflict galore.
This is truly a fun story. I loved the set up of the heroine’s desperate need for sexual fulfillment to stay alive. It made for a sensual, fun read I couldn’t put down until I finished every last page. This one’s going on my Keeper Shelf for another read…after I find and read the first nine Doomsday Brethren novels. This was my first Shayla Black novel. It will not be my last.
I need to do some serious bookstore trolling!”
“A good read, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The kidnapping grabbed my attention from the start, naturally. Olivia tried so hard to fight her way out of an impossible situation. And Marrock was such an interesting and humorous character. The Brethern are a great concept, and they're all very amusing, in my opinion. Amusing in a good way. I can't wait for the rest of the series. I want to find out more about Shock! *smiles*”

Olivia is determined to stay in England and opens an art shop. She hires a detective to look for her father, but her case reaches a dead end. But Oliva gets help from her new friend Bram, who happens to be part of a long line of magical wizards with huge powers. But Bram has his own reasons for helping Olivia, so he introduces her to Marrok of Cadbury and his beautiful carvings, in the hope to get something from Marrok.
Marrok of Cadbury was one of the most skilled warriors of King Arthur, but falling in love with witch Morganna wasn’t a good idea. Centuries ago Morganna placed a curse on Marrok and he is still trying desperately to break the curse. He knows the answer lies in the magical book he possesses; the only thing is how to open the book. To pass his time through the centuries Marrok carves wood figures and caught the eye of Olivia, an American art dealer.
When Olivia and Marrok meet for the first time, sparkles are flying, but Marrok cannot believe his eyes, because Olivia looks a lot like Morganna. Marrok is convince that Olivia can break the curse and lures her to his home, not knowing that will change his life forever and becoming involved in a magical war.
Tempt me with darkness by Shayla Black is the first novel in her Doomsday Brethren series. I have to say it surprise me, I like this new world with connection to Merlin, Arthur and Morganna.
Main-characters Marrok and Olivia have a connection from the first moment they meet. Marrok is shocked to see the resembling between Morganna and Olivia; he is convinced she is Morganna. So he lures Olivia to his home with all the wrong reasons, but he cannot ignore the huge attraction between them. When he finally discovers Olivia is not Morganna, but one of her descendant he will do anything to get her help with breaking the curse, so he can died peacefully. But he didn’t expect to fall in love with her.
Olivia left America after her mother died, she found some papers about her father and she is desperate to find him. So moving to England was the first thing on her list and opening up an Art shop the second, after all a girl got to eat and art was her life. The moment Marrok of Cadbury walks into her shop, her whole world is turning upside down. Olivia not only falls in love with this gorgeous artist, but discovers she maybe has some magic in her.
Every book I’ve read by Shayla Black swept me of my feet and this novel isn’t exception. She really knows how to create a world full of magic, legends and steamy love scenes. I’ve said this before she is definitely one of the best erotica authors I’ve read and after reading this novel she is also very good with magical legends connecting this to Merlin & Arthur.
Magic, legends and great love scenes, this is a novel that takes your mind of the daily routine and lures you right into its fabulous world.

A human, though immortal, Marrok has spent the last fifteen hundred years searching for a way to unlock the Doomsday Diary and cease his torment. When Bram Rion, a friend and powerful wizard shows up on Marrok's doorstep looking for the diary, Marrok denies having the book. Bram's explanation regarding the return of Mathias, the evil leader of the Anarki, doesn't persuade Marrok to turn over the diary. It isn't until Bram drags Marrok to an art dealer's shop that Marrok realizes exactly the lengths Bram is willing to go to get that diary - even introducing him to the powerful witch that doomed him in the first place, Morganna le Fay. The woman introduced to Marrok looks like the witch who curse him - even down to the birthmark. Her denial falls upon deaf ears.
Olivia Gray has traveled to England for one reason - to find her missing father. All of her life Olivia felt as if she were a burden to her mother, so the thought of finally finding the man who gave her life is important to her. Now, if only she could discover his name. As she hunts for her father, Olivia's friend Bram Rion brings a reclusive artist by her studio. Olivia is enthralled by the man introduced to her as Marrok. His attitude and animosity baffle her. When he slams out of her studio, she is disheartened. What Olivia doesn't know, but will soon be informed of, is that she is thought to be the woman who cursed Marrok so long ago.
Marrok lures Olivia to his home after apologizing for his previous attitude. He uses the guise of seeing the rest of his carvings. Once there, neither are able to keep their hands off of each other. When Olivia whispers the mating words spilling from her lips, Marrok answers in kind with words of his own. Their fates are now entwined; with their mating complete Olivia can no longer sustain energy on her own; she must have Marrok to stay alive. With forces coming to a head in the Brethren's fight against Mathis, Olivia and Marrok must learn to trust each other and that proves to be the hardest fight of all.
There is nothing more satisfying to me as a reader than to find a new series to embrace. Shayla Black's new series, the Doomsday Brethren, with the first book TEMPT ME WITH DARKNESS, is such a series. TEMPT ME WITH DARKNESS, the story of Marrok and Olivia starts out with a bang and does not let up. Marrok is virile and handsome; his no nonsense attitude and desire for the end of his curse permeated his thoughts and consumed his days. Only one thing mattered - until he meets Olivia Gray. At first thought Olivia was mistaken for someone else and it took some convincing to make Marrok understand. Afraid of being a burden and unsure of her place in Marrok's heart, Olivia would rather wilt away than to derive energy from Marrok if duty is all she is to him. Marrok quickly took control of the situation and sensually showed Olivia exactly how he felt about her. I, of course, simply melted.
TEMPT ME WITH DARKNESS is fast-paced, emotional and thoroughly addicting. I found Marrok irresistible and Olivia loving and loyal. TEMPT ME WITH DARKNESS is a very strong first installment and I find myself panting for more of this bold and sassy new series.

She brings you into a magical world of noble warriors, witches, and wizards, then sets them in modern day England with a plot that was set into motion hundreds of years ago. Marrok and Olivia's relationship is complicated and their uncertain future will tug at your emotions as this plot unfolds into a great climatic ending. Great character development and lead off to this new series. Tempt Me with Darkness is a great read and I look forward to reading more about her fascinating characters in upcoming books.
