“Took a minute to get into. Fresh story idea, not something that you read over and over again. Fresh charecters, but for some reason I couldn't connect with the writing. Plus I guessed her identity the second she was in London and the head guy appeared.”

It was one of the best romance books I have read in years, and I look forward to what Joanna Bourne writes in the future. The attention to detail, the surprising plot twists, and the depth of the characters all contributed to a solid read. Add to that the research on the thought process of spies that didn't sound like a lesson. Plus the thought-provoking dialogues that made you see the world differently, and the way the two characters fell in love with each other through respect, then admiration, for the other's abilities and character. On top of that were the love scenes that didn't use the same euphemisms and descriptions that everyone else has. The Spymaster's Lady is a rare treat to savour.”

I liked the characters a lot, a strong female lead with a touch of damsil in distress. I was very caught up in the twists and turns of the plot, I'm anxious to read the next one.”

If you enjoyed Outlander you'll enjoy this one.”

Before reading this novel I had heard that the discrepancy in power balance between the hero and the heroine had bothered people, with both of them being spies and so forth, but that didn't bother me at all. Of course, the kick-ass type heroine is not for me, nor did I see Bourne's heroine as someone that should fall into this category. Her strength is her intelligence, observation skills and agility, not fighting.
Bourne hides something from the reader in the early part of the novel, and I thought that was very well done. However, later on this Weakness of the heroine is completely removed, which I thought was a bit of a cop out. Another thing that seemed a bit off to me was when the heroine trusts a stranger towards the end of the novel. Despite being an untrusting spy? Hmmm....
Still, a very enjoyable read. Recommended.”
