Two quite different books. Conrad's Fate was entertaining, but while it had splendid ideas and it is always nice to see Christopher Chant again, it wasn't quite balanced. In the end, everything went quite too fast and left me unsatisfied.
The Pinhoe Egg on the other hand was brilliant. Full of clever ideas, with a lovely plot that doesn't get out of hand. One of the best in the Crestomancy series.

Diana Wynne Jones is as imaginative as she is knowledgeable about human nature. She infuses her creativity into stories that are magical while they also tell a story about human nature and I love this about her work. This book is part of the Chronicles of Chrestomanci series and deals with two feuding magical clans sending plagues of frogs and lice at one another while attempting to stay unnoticed by the governing official (Chrestomanci). This is a young adult book and the main characters are people with whom most middle school children can easily relate. The children deal with some familiar issues, such as adults not taking them seriously, even when the children are right.

Whilst slightly disappointing that the adventures in 'Charmed Life' (Volume 1) are not told out in full as I thought they might be in this volume, it is wonderful to learn more about both Cat and Christopher Chant and their subsequent experiences.

As colourful and wry as the rest of the series, and as difficult to put down. It concludes the series in a satisfying way, which is no easy feat.

    This books includes:
    Conrad's Fate
    The Pinhoe Egg

I've already read these two stories, but I'm back for seconds. Love Diana Wynne Jones' Chrestomanci Series.

I did not enjoy this book as much as her previous Chrestomanci novels, but the fact that I read this in high school could have contributed.

better then the 2nd book in the series since the chrestomanci is in the stories a lot more. i am still not crazy about how the time line in the series jumps around. i think it gets quite confusing and i find myself forgetting about characters that were mentioned 3 stories ago.
they are good stories and i like the world(s) that is created.

Like all of Diana Wynne Jones books, this has a wonderful mix of magic, humor and drama. I'd recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy - young or old.
