I loved this book! Started at the end leaving you with one impression of what happened and then took you through the story and you find out what really happened. Great read!

This was a really good read, a period peice, just after WWII, Mississippi, with sexism and racism. I loved every minute of it, even the terrible parts.

I really enjoyed this book. My only problem was that it needed to be three times as long. I'm torn because the character development was very good -- but could have been incredible with more writing and more pages. I think I am saying that this was an enjoyable story....just not epic.
Which is why I am reading Ken Folletts 1,000 page book Fall of the Giants soon....

I could not put this book down. The story though often times sad & tragic was a good one. I was glad I read it and sad when it ended. And in the end, I came away with a feeling that the story represented some of the struggles and complexities of the times, inclluded some of the racial tensions but was a pleasure to read. It takes place duing WWII and is told from the characters' standpoint. Mudbound gets under your skin and touches you down to your roots. It has been compared to The Help, but I think it was very different.

4 and a half star book- in the genre of the iconic southern writers like Faulkner and Welty. Could not put it down. Highly recommend.

Good book about stark reality of life in the south on the farms. Not fun to read, though. Makes me proud to be a Northerner.

I enjoyed this book, and would have enjoyed it even more if it had been a bit longer and more in depth. The chapters written from different perspectives usually worked fine, although occasionally I felt like the writing wasn't different enough and I lost track of who was speaking. The best part of this book was the complexity of the characters--no one was all good or all bad (okay, maybe Pappy)--but instead they had a mix of motivations, impulses, good and bad instincts. It was a good read.

This book was recommended to me by some couch surfers who left their copy with me. I picked it up Sunday morning, and by Sunday night had finished it. It's a quick read, a murder in the deep south told from the points of view of (six?) different characters. It was very enjoyable.
