She doesn't want to get close to anyone so when she moves it won't hurt her as much. She comes up with this brilliant plan to act like a total geek so she doesn't have any friends. could she end up liking some of the outcasts she hangs out with. She finally realizes that it can be very hard for her to be popular.”

She does so many embarrasing things from accidently flashing her undies in a movie theater (which was empty except for one person) to wearing a ridiculous Halloween costume on local tv and still becomes popular, which was what she was avoiding all along. It makes you feel bad for her because she's pretty lost and confused and really lonely for most of the book, but it works out in the end. Her real friends forgive her and so does the guy that she likes. I actually liked his character a lot too.”

It is about a young girl named Maggie Dempsey who is tired of moving all the time with her hippy parents. This is especially so when she has to leave behind her first love in Seattle to go to Austin. Maggie is distraught and immature about this. She decides that to avoid the pain of losing friends she will work to not be popular. She will hang out with unpopular kids, like the geek crowd. She will do unpopular things like join the "helping hands club." She will dress in unpopular clothes such as mechanics jumpsuits and carry star wars lunch box. She will invite her parents to have lunch with her at school. However, this actually makes her popular, not unpopular as she seems a "real" more authentic, does her own thing own way person that the students look up to. What happens when they learn it's all a fake? ”
