First, you should know I had a galley edition of this book…so it is possible there were some changes before it was printed… but I loved this book! Leslie Hazleton does an excellent job of pointing out for you that history is in the eye of the beholder, including the stories in the Bible. She goes on to even clarify differences between the older Greek Bible and the King James version. Her personal understanding of Hebrew, her travels in the Middle East, and the extensive bibliography and references within this work lend credibility to her exploration of the life of Jezebel, Ahab’s wife. She does such a good job of causing us to question what we think we know, that we also have to understand hers is just another plausible story as well. While this book could be considered non-fiction, or probably more fairly: creative non-fiction, it is a fun and easy read. My only complaint was not having a map to view the sites she discussed.
