Better than any other book I've read so far, this book captures the negative relationship between society and pornography. Occasionally the author is a little extreme and unfortunately I think some of his goals are, though I agree with them, are most likely unattainable on a mass scale. That...

I agree with many of Jensen's statements but not many of his judgments or conclusions. Discrimination of women is real and working toward equality is a noble cause. I think the author is, however, extremist in his approach and, like almost all extremists, sees the world in absolutes. Something...

I agree with many of Jensen's statements but not many of his judgments or conclusions. Discrimination of women is real and working toward equality is a noble cause. I think the author is, however, extremist in his approach and, like almost all extremists, sees the world in absolutes. Something is either altogether right or altogether wrong. No matter what the cause, people with this mentality have the potential to do immense harm if given enough power. It is true that there are horribly abusive depictions (and Jensen describes some of the worst I've ever heard) in today's porn. But I have to ask, isn't the desire to see these scenes present before the scenes are shot? And isn't our energy more efficiently used focusing on what plants that desire in a psyche in the first place?

Better than any other book I've read so far, this book captures the negative relationship between society and pornography. Occasionally the author is a little extreme and unfortunately I think some of his goals are, though I agree with them, are most likely unattainable on a mass scale. That being said it's a well written and well researched book and the goals proposed are attainable on an individual scale and this book has helped me a lot in that aspect. I don't believe that porn or even the concept of porn is inherently evil, but I do dislike the current state of pornography and this book helps uncover (from a male point of view no less) why many of us feel that way. I particularly recommend this book to anyone dealing with a pornography addiction.

An interesting book which condemns pornography from a feminist perspective. It's easy to read, even if you aren't so big on feminist theory -- I read it and annotated it in about three days. If you're squeamish about graphic sex, read something else, but otherwise I'd recommend it for everybody, even if you think you're not a feminist.

Feminists and those who don't identify with the movement (men and women) should read this book with an open mind. Jensen's outlining of the problems with the concept of masculinity and the pornography industry are well thought out. I also appreciate his emphasis on the importance of empathy for other humans beings. There are many hard questions raised, but I feel that society will benefit from taking these challenges seriously.

Really powerful feminist analysis of porn and masculinity. Not so much stuff you haven't heard. But disturbing accounts of popular stuff in porn and trends in watchers and what this says about our culture...
