“A great book in a far away land.
“I did not like the first half of the book, but it really picked up in the second half. Bobby spent way too much time whining. There seemed to be a lot of repetition (of course I was listening to it, so maybe I just heard it more) and I got sick of it. I'm glad I'm almost finished with the series. It's been a good one, but a little too long. I just want to see what happens in the end.”elephantreads wrote this review Saturday, November 13, 2010. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? “The ninth installment of the best selling “Pendragon,” series is, “Raven Rise.” This book marks the beginning of the final battle for Halla. The Travelers, lead by Bobby Pendragon, his friends and Acolytes, Courtney and Mark, have been traveling from territory to territory trying to save Halla from the evil Saint Dane. There’s only one problem, Bobby is stuck on the territory of Ibara. The battle has finally reached his home territory, Second Earth, and Bobby is not there. Can he escape from Ibara to save his territory or is he too late?
It has the suspense and action typical of an adventure novel; it keeps you wandering what will happen next. This is evident when Alder, the Traveler from Denduron, tries to return to Ibara, only to find that the flume is broken. Alder is left to wonder, what could have caused the malfunction of the flume? Or when Courtney and Mark return to Second Earth and discover it has changed. The Sherwood House is no longer uninhabited and they are chased of the property by a security guard armed with a machine gun. I recommend this book for those readers who like to be glued to their seat in anticipation of what is coming next.
The two words I would use to describe the main character, Bobby Pendragon, are confused and determined. Confused because he has no idea who he is, as a matter of fact, who any of the Travelers are, or what they are. Why were they chosen to fight Saint Dane and what was so special about them? However, Bobby is also determined once and for all to defeat the notorious villain Saint Dane; he gave his all to stop him. He was so determined that he destroyed the flume, the only way off Ibara, to trap Saint Dane with him, ending the battle for Halla. But something happens to cause him to regret that.
