Irawati Karve tries to extract the essential story from the Mahabharata and identify what may been later additions to the original story. She tries to interpret what the meaning of certain things in the Mahabharata may have been.

This is a highly recommended book, that gives you more than what has been shoved down your throats by the traditional religious order.
