Loved this book, read it when I had just migrated, so could relate a lot to those feelings of alienation. Makes an interesting read even if you are not an immigrant, accurate descriptions of what they go through.

I loved this book. I don't usually go for short stories ... but I felt the characters were brought to life and they were filled with interesting interactions and relationships.

I agree with swapnakrishnan2k. The book is indeed a little depressing, the events are cliched and characters repetitive. Nevertheless, the stories haunt you for a long time afterwards and it's a pleasure to think of the redemptive actions the women in these stories took.
