Good news, everyone – Book 2 in the Kate Daniels series (Magic Burns) is better than Book 1 (Magic Bites). The first had its charms – solid world-building with no need for romance, and the fascinating idea of upir. But I read it over the course of several days while going through...

I liked this book better than the first. Kate has evolved and seems a little more vunerable. Curran and the secondary characters are all wonderful! The story line is excellent and I love the mythology aspect. This husband and wife team seem to be amazing researchers!

I really have to say I can't get enough of Kate. She's a great character and I love the development of this character throughout the story. It might not be something major, but by the end she has grown. This is something that seems to not happen more often with other books and I'm loving it.

This is one of the more story rich books I have read in a long time. No fillers here, folks. The story may not be fast paced throughout the book, but it is all story progressive. Very well written.

The other characters are great, Curran, Jim, Derek, Julie, Andrea and the countless others that make this story so much fun to read. Did I mention Curran?

This may be a slight spoiler, if you haven't read the previous books, so beware. I'm loving the continued story with Roland and Kate hiding her identity from everyone. It is affecting her, and we all have front row seats to her turmoil. I'm really excited for this to play out, now that she isn't hiding anymore. Frustrating, yes, but what a great continuing storyline, something great to look forward to.

Pretty good, much better than the first book. I still feel like there is something I am missing throughout the story, like there is a first book I forgot to read. I was expecting a little bit more explanation about why magic and tech were out of balance and things of such nature. But otherwise the storyline moved along quickly and the characters seemed more relatable than the first book.
