Stephen Berry's portrait of the Todd family and their politically divided members is eminently readable. He does an excellent job of revealing individual personalities and telling human stories while still explaining the political context. Definiitely worth reading for the family story and the way it shaped Lincoln's understanding of the meaning of the Civil War.
