“This book is about Diana Christopher, a 32 yr old single, plus size woman, struggling with her issues, of losing weight, improving her sex life, and her job situation. It follows Diana through all of her anxieties over being lonely and overweight, and her self esteem and image problems that are pointed out by several people in the book much like her well meaning but frustrating mother.
Diana is still heartbroken from losing her dad suddenly in a firey car crash when she was 6 yrs old and throughout the years she has medicated her hurt feelings with food. When she was 17 she had a one night stand with Barry, a man close to his thirties, and feeling that he was a nice guy intrested in her, she lost her virginity to him. Since then she has not had sex with anyone else and after a cancer scare, is determined to lose weight and remedy that situation.
Mrs. Bartle, Diana's elderly neighbor (her best friend and also Barry's Great Aunt), is who Diana confides in when she suffers setbacks in her life, and Mrs. Bartle is always available with a understanding shoulder to cry on and encouraging words that inspire Diana to keep going to reach her goals, for what she wants out of life.
Diana finds out that Barry, her one night stand and blast from the past, is Mrs. Bartle's Great Nephew. Also that he's moving back to Baltimore after his divorce to open up another location of his Automotive buisness, and that he has changed in the years that they were apart. He tells her that she was one of the reasons that he left because he felt guilty for taking her virginity and he didn't like himself much back then since he used to sleep around alot. Barry never did forget Diana, and she never forgot him either. But with the help of Mrs. Bartle they found each other once again.
There's much more to the story but I won't spoil it for you. This book holds a special place in my heart as I, myself have known the sadness of losing a father at such a young age and you never truly get over it, so you muddle through the best way you know how. I really empathize with alot of Diana's struggles in the book as it mirrors my own insecurities and issues too at times.
I liked Diana's relationship with Mrs. Bartle and later with Barry both of which was very sweet and kind to her as she's going through hell just trying to find herself and what she wants out of life. The only thing that I didn't like was the fact that the author kept insisting that Diana being a size 16 was grossly overweight. I don't quite agree with that, as there are some like myself who would love to be a size 16 again, so I thought that part was somewhat unrealistic. Other than that, this was a really good book, it had me in tears more than once as it follows Diana through all of her issues, and tragedies and results in a very sweet, happy ending. A must read but keep the tissues handy :)

I found the main character more sure of herself and not whiny like the typical fare. I loved Mrs. Bartle and wish I had a special person like that in my life!”
