I also really liked the notes found in Santiago's file.

"Give me a prejudice and I will move the world."

    "Fatality makes us invisible."

I just finished this book and I loved it. The only thing I felt my self thirsting for was the true identity of Angela's lover.

For me the most powerful part is how GGM captures the anxiety that fell upon the town after Santiago's death. "For years we couldn’t talk about anything else. Our daily conduct, dominated then by so many linear habits, had suddenly begun to spin around a single common anxiety. The cocks of dawn would catch us trying to give order to the chain of many chance events that had made absurdity possible, and it was obvious that we weren’t doing it from an urge to clear up mysteries but because none of us could go on living without an exact knowledge of the place and mission assigned to us by fate."

The most poetic part of the novel is when Bayardo San finally returns to Angela after long years of abandonment. He carries a suitcase full of letters she had sent him all through those years-all unopened!
From here the readers imagination takes flight.
Only a brilliant writer could think of such a conclusion.
