Marquez: long been my idea of brain candy. Soul candy too. He is the imagination gift-bearer. I've loved everything I ever read by him, even if I didn't love all parts of the stories.

A non-linear flashback novel of a murder. A man returns to his town to uncover the truth behind a murder of 20 years ago. Details are revealed non-sequentially. I didn't like it as mnay things were never revealed such as who did the girl sleep with? What became of her obsessive relatiohsip with her husband after the death? Emotional, though, for the timing of the murder and the real lack of desire.

The most poetic part of the novel is when Bayardo San finally returns to Angela after long years of abandonment. He carries a suitcase full of letters she had sent him all through those years-all unopened!
From here the readers imagination takes flight.
Only a brilliant writer could think of such a conclusion.
