What happens when a magical realist decides to write about the reality of Columbia. One of the most powerful books about terror and criminal activities that I have ever read.

Marquez going back to his journalistic roots... But few people seem to understand that he writes this still with his technique magical realism... Sorry but the interjections of how people feel and think might not be objective per se but that's what i love about this book, he makes a 'news of a kidnapping' feel like a real story, it's journalistic but not boring... I was rooting for Pablo Escobar through out...

I read an excerpt of this book and I have yet to get it out of my mind. I also have yet to get a hold of the book, it's a hard one to find. This is one of the few non-fiction pieces in Marquez's collection. That one chapter convinced me I have to read it.
