It's Lolita without the creepiness. Marquez wraps a love story with the story of a man's life, told through vignettes of his relationships. The book is a particularly fast read and a great introduction to Marquez. If you like it, there's even more to enjoy in One Hundred Years of Solitude and Love in the Time of Cholera.

My first book by Gabo' and after finishing reading it, I know that it has a classic style of narrative. Probably not his best book but the story is substantial and humble, and sometimes it has some funny moments centered on the rediscovery of an old man with Eros and Amor. "That's not for coming in, Señor, but for coming out..." Yes, Love/Lust, is crazy...

found it very disturbing...though I get the message that love transcends all things...still, very disturbing.

Wonderful, witty, well written and encouraging story about age, love and life. I really enjoy Marquez' writing style and how unpretentious and simple his writing is.

Only good reviews I can write about Gabriel Garcia Marquez because I totally loved this book. It's about a man who finds love at the end of his life.Marquez pictures the feelings of discovering first love like no other novelist. The book is full of sensibility and realism.

Here's something I did not expect to like, but I had to change my opinion. This is the first book I've read on the so-called "magical realism" and it caught me. I really don't know if a ninety-year old man can really fall in love with a sleeping 14-year-old girl, but I strongly believe that love changes lives - more, love makes lives worth living. Anyone who agrees shouly read this one.

A ninety-year-old man falls for a 14-year-old girl. Sounds like trouble, but is written in a way that will have you both laughing at and feeling sorry for this elderly man and his piteous predicament.

Has some great parts at the beginning explaining his life up to that point, his frailing memory and body. Ie. He goes to the doctor with a backpain that he says is killing him to breathe, and the doctor tells him the pain is normal for someone of his age. He replies, "In that case, what's not normal is my age."

This book is definitely worth a chuckle.

Interesting. Humorous. Ninety years old and having taken use of brothels all his life, he suddenly falls in love. Perhaps the whole point is love can hit you at any age?
