“A cruise ship is an intriguing place to have a mystery. It’s even better in Alaska in the book Stranded by Dani Pettrey. Darcy St. James wants to help her reporter friend on an Alaskan cruise. After boarding the cruise ship, Darcy’s friend disappears.
On this trip, Darcy runs into Gage McKenna again. He is in charge of some of the cruise excursions. Darcy and Gage met before while trying to solve a murder mystery in the previous book, Shattered. There are unresolved feelings from their last meeting so you have tension right away when they see each other again on the cruise. One major problem between them is Darcy’s faith in God. Gage’s past personal tragedy causes him to doubt the goodness of God.
Explanation from the cruise staff about the disappearance of Darcy’s friend are not satisfactory. Darcy digs deeper with help from Gage. They find more disappearances and even murder. The pursuit of the truth puts them in danger from an unknown source. The reason for the disappearances are disturbing and sad. It reminded me of terrible things that are actually going on in this world. Despite the sinister things happening in the background, I thought the overnight excursions were a great idea. The whole cruise was truly set for adventure.
Pettrey has woven together a great mystery again in Stranded, book three of the Alaskan Courage series. I wanted to keep reading. I was nervous when I knew the bad guy was close. I cheered when the good guys came to the rescue. I am enjoying this series about the McKenna family. It’s like a great mini-series.”
“Stranded, Alaskan Courage Book Three by Dani Pettrey
Darcy St James returns to Alaska and a job she gave up to help out her friend and former coworker Abby. They are former partners as investigation journalists. Abby has stumbled upon a big case and needs Darcy’s help but when she goes to help Abby has disappeared from the cruise ship. The last person Darcy expects to meet is Gage McKenna. When she last left Alaska she left a part of her heart and never expected to see Gage again. Together they face danger and fight for their lives. This is the first book I have had the pleasure of reading by the author Dani Pettrey and the first in this series, I find it to be well written. It is a fast paced book that grabs and holds your attention. I had a hard time putting it down. Although it is part of a series it can be read as a stand alone, I had no problem following. I give this outstanding book five stars and can not wait to learn all about the rest of the McKenna’s in the first two books. This author is sure to find her way to my favorites. I want to thank the author Dani Pettrey and publisher for bringing good clean Christian books like this one to readers like me. ”
“This is a great series. Book 3 is definitely as good as the first 2. I really think they need to be read in order. We met Darcy in book 2. In book 3 she is reunited with the McKenna Family through her work. Gage and Darcy are attracted to each other but Gage trusts no woman and is very bitter towards God because of issues in his past. This is a suspense filled book as the first two are. This author has a way of making you care for each character. I felt their hurts, their faults and their fears. I found myself cheering when someone finally realized the only solution was asking God into their lives and giving him control. I love this series and am eagerly waiting for book 4.”Terry Conrad wrote this review Wednesday, October 9, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Stranded is the third book in Dani Pettrey's Alaskan Courage series (one of my favorite series), and another wonderful story! I still think my favorite is book two, Shattered, but I also loved this one. :)
The characters were so great! I knew from the previous books that I already loved the McKenna's, but I was pleasantly surprised by Gage - I didn't expect to find him so funny, but he made me laugh quite a few times. :) I also loved learning more about Jake - I was kind of surprised by his story and definitely felt for him.
A couple times the story repeated itself, but it was in a realistic way, as it was mostly the characters telling others about things that had happened.
The story was interesting and, even though I knew what was going on the entire time (because of a review that mentioned the plot), I was still engrossed in the story and didn't want to put it down! I ended up finishing Stranded in less than a day!
Overall, Stranded was a fantastic read that I loved! I can't wait to read Silenced (which I'm hoping is Kayden's story) when it releases. If you enjoy romantic suspense, then I most definitely recommend Stranded, but you might want to read Submerged and Shattered first, that way you'll know the McKenna history.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author for my honest review. I was not required to give a positive review, only my honest opinion - which I've done. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.*”
“Stranded is the third book in the Alaskan Courage series by Dani Pettrey. This was truly an inspirational romantic suspense novel. Packed with loads of adventure and mystery, this book was an excellent read. Stranded pushes you to think about current issues as well, such as the problem of sex trafficking. No, we don’t read anything X-rated, as it is a wonderfully clean romance (there is only some kissing) and no worries about offensive language either (Yay!!)
The book starts off very strongly with the disappearance of Darcy’s friend Abby. Abby is an undercover investigative reporter, working as an excursion chef on the Alaskan cruise ship, Bering. Darcy arrives on board the ship to help Abby just before Abby disappears overboard. It’s Darcy’s search for answers that drive the action in the story.
I thought that Pettrey provided some good character development in this book. We learn about the tragedy that makes Gage so bitter, and the history that Jake is hiding. It would probably be a good idea to read the first two books in the series first (I didn’t) as there are several references to what has previously happened with the McKenna clan, but it doesn’t seriously impact the ability to follow the story in this book.
The characters feel very real, and we are allowed to see them with all their good qualities and their flaws. It is watching them deal with, and sometimes overcome their issues that make this book inspirational. I thought this book was very well-written.
I give this book 4 stars
I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for my fair and honest review. A free product does not influence my opinion. All thoughts are my own.
“Title: Stranded (Alaskan Courage Book #3)
Author: Dani Pettrey
Shattered and Submerged are the titles of the first two novels in this action-packed, suspense-filled thriller series written by Dani Pettrey. Some might conclude the later novels would be boring or the story thin, but nothing could be further from the truth! Here, the McKenna family is once again running their adventure business in Alaska. Gage’s heart was broken years ago by the loss of his son and more. Then, Darcy St. James enters the area and Gage’s life starts to get interesting. However, progress can only happen if Gage lets go of his anger toward God, turns to the Lord and allows his heart to love again.
While the McKenna family works, plays and worships together, they each have unique personalities that blend well to make life interesting. Abby is Darcy’s best friend from her past who calls and asks her to join her on a cruise in Alaska because of something Abby has discovered. While Darcy loves writing, even though she has left undercover reporting, she finds the cry for help one she cannot resist. As Darcy uncovers more information, what comes to light is far more than first perceived in the investigation. The danger, risks and clues increase exponentially, bringing characters face to face with where their walk with the Lord is and Who is responsible for salvation.
Since I began reading this series, there has always been anticipation for a possible sequel to be published. The suspense, romance, faith, thrills and chills that are some of the elements in the book kept me up late each time I began a book. Alaska has always held my interest and someday I hope to visit the area. With the scenes described in the writing, my heart really desires to see the land and meet the people. The characters are in many ways representative of people I have known in various places with their seeking Him, returning to Him or coming to Him. The joy of seeing faith, scripture and praying characters makes the novel rich in meaning.
All I can say is read all three of the novels in order to gain the richness of the plot that begins in Shattered, continues in Submerged and now resides in Stranded. I think readers will enjoy reading any of them without reading the others, but for me it was a richer experience since starting at the beginning. I sure wonder what the author is going to do next. I would be ecstatic to read another novel in the Alaskan Courage series. Don’t miss the fun!
My rating is 5+ stars!

“This is the third book in the Alaskan Courage series, which is a wonderful series if you haven’t read the other books in it, they are amazing.
Darcy St. James travels to Alaska again as an investigative reporter to help a friend uncover something big on a cruise ship. When she gets there her friend, Abby, goes missing. Darcy knows there is foul play involved because Abby sounded very scared about what was going on when she last heard from her.
Gage McKenna is on the same cruise to lead adventure expeditions, in which Darcy will be writing pieces on, as this is her cover. When he sees her again, after 5 months since the last time, he is angry and yet taken aback by the attraction that he can’t deny.
The mystery and danger they go through while discovering what happened to Abby is suspenseful. Quite the page turner! Romance, chemistry, and lot’s of emotions overwhelm the two as they work together.
Faith is a strong message in this novel. To believe God still loves you even if you have turned your back on Him. Spending time in the word and rediscovering the Bible and its promises.
I love this series, and although I missed reading the second one, I will be getting it right away to read. The family and friends that make up this series is full of amazing character and loyalty. The romance and suspense that Dani weaves in her stories leaves the reader more than satisfied with the adventure. She has a way with words that keeps the story flowing full speed. This is one author that rivals many of the other great authors like Dee Henderson, Colleen Coble and Irene Hannon to name a few. I can’t wait to read what she has next.

“Like the other two books in the series, this story is full of intrigue and exciting excursions. The subject matter is a bit different because it has to do with missing persons. Darcy, the heroine, is a fun heroine. She's spunky, but stubborn as well. That stubborn view gets her into a lot of trouble, but it also keeps her going even when things seem hopeless. Her faith also sustains her.
I wasn't as satisfied with this romance as I was with the others. It seemed a bit more stilted and the hero's faith journey seemed a bit more random and less natural in the way he converted. I liked his character, though, especially when he couldn't resist the heroine even when he tried. That was romantic. I think my favorite aspect of this series had to do with the exotic setting. This one focused on a cruise ship and kayaking on rough water, plus some camping. I like the uniqueness of the setting because not many books are set in Alaska.
I got the impression from the loose ends with Jake and Kayden that there might be a fourth book in the works. If there is, I'd read it. As with the other books, I was surprised and pleased when the mystery was solved because the situation made sense when they discovered who was behind the criminal activity. I like this family. They remind me a bit of the television family from Eight is Enough, but minus the parent. This was a good story and I enjoyed it and read it quickly.”
“I did not read the first two titles in this series, and I think I'd have liked this Christian fiction better if I had. The author worked hard to fill in gaps for readers like me, but still there were times I had to shrug my shoulders and press on with the reading. I suppose it's difficult with a large cast of characters to fill in the background of everyone involved.
The main character, Darcy, is hard to admire because she falls for so many obvious ploys. I could not understand how she and her romantic interest, Gage, could be so blind to the dangers around them.
Obviously, this is not one of my favorites. Perhaps you'll feel differently.
Thank you to Noelle Buss at Bethany House Publishers for my copy.”
“Darcy has left undercover investigative journalism. But when her friend Abby calls her to come help her in her investigation of a cruise line Darcy cannot turn her down. Before Darcy gets a chance to meet up with Abby she disappears. Darcy is now determined to find what has happened to her friend.
Gage and his family have been hired to lead adventure tours for the same cruise line that Darcy is now investigating. Gage and Darcy have not seen each other in several months. Gage is determined to not lose his heart to Darcy. Still bitter about his former wife and the loss of his son, Gage wants nothing to do with God or a woman who has no problem lying and deceiving others to gain the information she needs.
Reluctantly pulled into Darcy’s investigation in order to protect her, Gage finds his heart softening both towards Darcy and the God whom she serves. Darcy knows her heart has chosen Gage, but she has doubts that Gage will ever turn to God and she fears that she has fallen in love with a man that will never share her faith.
The closer that Darcy and Gage get to what has happened to Abby the more they learn the evils that some people will succumb to for money.
Once again Dani Pettrey has written an excellent novel filled with suspense and romance. I loved Gage and Darcy’s story! Even when Gage is determined not to care for Darcy he still can’t help but protect her. Darcy manages to get herself into some scary situations in order to find Abby and each step of the way Gage is there to help her through. I’m now looking forward to the next book in the series which I hope will feature Kayden and Jake. We learned a bit about Jake in STRANDED and now it is time for these two to have their story.
