It also includes commentary from a modenist perspective. [br/][br/]By modernist I mean that anything that does not seem to jive with modern science is given an interpertation that does not agree with the classical commentators on the Qur'an. It is not necessarly a good thing and it is not a bad thing either. As with any of the translations that one reads one has to be aware that even though it is in print does not mean that it is the final word on the subject. [br/][br/]With that said the translator is quite opinionated and a very spirited defender of what he believes and hold dear. [br/][br/]With out a doubt the translator know masterly Arabic I find that his translations of the Hadith much better than his translation of the Qur'an. Not only do I find my self disagreeing with some of his commentary but the translation of certain ayahs and terms. [br/][br/]It is perhaps best to illustrate that with examples. In the near future I may just do that. Inshallah!”

The Qur'an is the word of Allah as it was given, in Arabic. Muslim's believe that it is the most important book in the world. It is not translated except for study, and we learn it in Arabic. The most beautiful book!!

The author is an excellent scholar of Arabic and Islam but he is also a European convert and as so is able to approach topics in a manner that will be very familiar and appealling to Westren readers.”
