One of my top five books of all time. A lot of books make me chuckle in public. This would give me a belly laugh. A must read.

The silent one does a great job of telling about the old days! Groucho, the family historian and author of a few books himself, never wrote one that delivered on the Marx Brothers history like Harpo's. A wonderful look back at the way life really was in the old days of vaudeville. Harpo reveals much more detail about his youth than Groucho did and you never get a sense of his being embarrassed by hardship and goofy family characters the way you do from Grouch.
There is also a revealing quality to Harpo the philosopher. When he says he felt sorry for others but never for himself, or how he lived life like it was a dream it comes across with sincerity.
This is a thick book and my second time reading it. Very enjoyable.

I don't know of any other book I've read that gave me as many laugh out loud moments. I have read this book so many times, it's falling apart.

I hoped it would be funnier than it actually was. I thought it would be filled to the brim with funny anecdotes--especially between the Marx Brothers--but there were very few. There were a few very funny stories... for example, reading about Harpo's extremely limited education (and limited spelling ability--"you are ded.").

Here was a man who led a charmed life. He's seemingly without ego as he tells incredible tales about the Marx Bros. He talks about his kids alot and seems like the best father in the world.
