I found this book hard to get into at first. I think it was because the author kept using the whole name of the characters and he was very descriptive putting in what I call extra fluff which I don’t think was needed. But once I got past page thirty, I was interested. I think it was a very well written book with themes of love and death, memories and age.

I would recommend this book to others.

This was an extremely hard book to get into and get through. I found Florentino to be something like a lovesick puppy. There's being in love and then there's being outright desperate. And his mom added fuel to the fire by enabling that kind of behavior. Fermina struck me as arrogant and spoiled and irritated me throughout the book as well. I think the end was just a little too unrealistic, but then again, maybe that's what they needed at their age to survive.

This book is hard to read. It is at times over descriptive and rich in detail. But the core of the book to me was beautiful. I did not see Florentino Ariza as a stalker but as a simple man who was true to his heart. I found his way of loving typical of latin culture. He did not stop living his life, he just kept his true love alive in his heart. It was a true love story, novella style!
