Love You Forever (Gift Edition)

by Robert N. Munsch

The mother sings to her sleeping baby: "I'll love you forever / I'll love you for always / As long as I'm living / My baby you'll be." She still sings the same song when her baby has turned into a fractious 2-year-old, a slovenly 9-year-old, and then a raucous teen. So far so ordinary--but this is one persistent lady. When her son grows up and leaves home, she takes to driving across... (read more)

the first time I'd ever seen this book was on the episode of Friends when Joey reads it for Emma's first birthday because he didn't buy a gift. I loved it. I bought it for my son and he loves hearing it. Great book!

I do not like this book! I didn't care for the art nor the sloppy, overly sentimental story. If I have been able to give it a half star, then I would have. The way the parent follows the child around as he grows up, oh please!!! Yuck, yuck, yuck!

I was introduced to this book at a meeting of children's librarians in Western Massachusetts, we were planning the summer reading program. I was completely taken by the story. I had 2 young sons at the time. I purchased one copy for the library and 2 copies for myself. Although I read aloud to my children all the time, I didn't read this one to them. When one of my sons had his own sons (I'm a grandmother of two boys now) I gave it to him. My other son is a bachelor but I may never have grandchildren from him so I gave it to him anyway. It is not a book you can read without tears in your eyes! I also think it is probably more a message for adults than for children.

My mother and brother acted this out while I read it a few Mother's Day's ago. It has been a special book for us.

My mom read this book to my brother when he was a kid. I've always loved it & thought the old mom climbing in the window was kind of funny. It still makes me cry.

This is one of the best children's books I know of. I can't read it without getting misty, but I still read it to all three of my babies.
