She was ecstatic. She had wanted to be a mother forever, she told... (read more)

wow this was an amazing book. I could relate to the character in so many ways. I have further recommended this book to four other people. All have stated they enjoyed it as much as I did. It's a great read you must get it for yourself.

I am largely disappointed with this book, especially given all the hype surrounding it. The self talk that is detailed ad noseum throughout the first half of the book is truly painful. And her redefinition of religion to be simply whatever makes one happy is flippantly dismissive of 5000+ years of contemplative religious scholarship and reflection, which seems shallow and a bit arrogant. Not to mention her having no problem meditating on herself despite being in a country where some of the...

I loved the book but it bothered me that she only hit an equilibrium at the end after she'd found her love. That was a turn-off.

This book has really lifted me up at a time when I felt I really needed it. I suggest that everyone read the book and enjoy the lessons this author has learned.

Hi Alex, I just visited your profile and see that you're a rising sophomore in high school. I have a rising freshman and a rising senior in high school. I was quite impressed at how much you read for pleasure. Both of my boys read for pleasure despite how the school system tries their darnest to make them hate reading! Keep it up. It will continue to bring you much joy, happiness and comfort for the rest of your life! Happy reading to you!

I thought it was a really beautiful series, and for everyone who claims she's "whiney", how many of you don't complain over the most stupid and trivial things? By the way, I don't know if you noticed while you were struggling through the story, but she made herself unhappy for years, trying to stay with her husband so as not to hurt him. So maybe you should stop judging people for relating the hardest periods of their lives, no one made you read the book.

This book totally put me off at the 2nd page itself.
I didn't quite like reading it, and after watching Elizebeth Gilbert's interview with Oprah on TV, I could relate to why the book totally did that to me.
To those who enjoyed it, bravo to you.
