"That poor wandering lamb, Hetty Sorrel." That's a quote that still looms in my mind, and probably will in yours too as you read the story of the gentle carpenter, Adam Bede, and his love for the beautiful yet vacuous Hetty. There's also the interesting story of the saintly Methodist minister, Dinah, cousin to Hetty, and the beloved of Adam's brother, Seth. This is George Eliot at her finest.
