This futuristic paranormal is worthy of all the praises that’s been sung about its plot, characters and fantastical universe that is surely a stroke of pure genius. Who but a consummate, highly imaginative story-teller would have thought of the hyper intelligent world of telepaths such as the psy...

I was sceptical about this book, probably because of the dire title and cringeworthy cover art.

But never judge a book by it's cover certainly rang true in this book.

There seem to be two main groups in her world (so far) the Changelings (a variation on the were theme) and the Psy (spock like beings). Sascha is a cardinal Psy, a product of The Silence; the mental conditioning program that ensure the Psy feel nothing. Sascha is malfunctioning; she is starting to feel, and it is only a matter of time before her breathren notice and destroy her.

Lucas Hunter is the Alpha of the DarkRiver Changelings, a group of leopards. A spate of murders targetting the changlings has forced and uneasy alliance between the DarkRiver leopards and the rival wolf pack. Lucas must infiltrate the Psy network to find the culprit, and under pretense of a business alliance he meets Sascha.

Sascha and Lucas are inexplicably drawn to each other, but there differences offer challenges. As they start to work together to solve the murders life as they know it will change, and their feelings for one another will force them into uncertain territory.

Singh has actually managed to give a fresh take to the paranormal genre. Her strengths come in he beautifully crafted world and the rules that govern it. All her concepts, and the subsequent actions of her characters make sense. She has certainly set the Psy up as the villains, and I wonder if the plot following their corruption will continue in subsequent books. If I have one complaint it's that the book tended to verge on the sugary sweet side; there were many rapid declarations of love etc. Not a major flaw, but I prefer my romance a bit more gritty and plausable, no matter how magical the subject matter.

Excellent mix of the paranormal and future worlds. Enticing shifters and strong minded women. So, I'm really feeling this series so far.

Lucas was just so sexy and strong throughout the entire book; I loved his possessive but patient and understanding character. Sascha played her role very well and I'm glad she got to enjoy life in the end, and what better way to enjoy it then being under Lucas....lol.

Can't wait to start book 2. Nalini Singh has opened up many doors in this first book, does it get even better (I hope so), we shall see.

I have found a new paranormal series I'm going to love. Sascha sometimes made me want to cry. Feeling flawed is something we have in common. Lucas was perfect, alpha when he needed to be and not when it was necessary (esp. when dealing with Sacha). I can see me re-reading this book down the pike.

It's tough sifting through the dreck that can be paranormal romance. Singh, however, does an awesome job with the genre. Definitely recommend it.

Buy this book! Read this book!

This author can make sensual tension so addicting you get lost in her erotic world. This is sci fi romance about the future. Psy’s are emotionless with the exception of Sascha and she’d rather have no one aware of that fact.

She has to work with a changeling named Lucas Hunter who is a walking sex god. This book has a mystery, who is killing Lucas’s kind and a twist. Great, great novel. I cannot give enough praise to this author and this novel. Therefore, I’ll stop typing and tell you again, go buy this!

It's a futuristic sci-fi with a dash of paranormal into it. The psy is a race of people who close off their feelings from childhood. They are taught not to feel emotion. This entire program called "the Silence" was done in an effort to control insanity and serial killing in the populace.

As with most paranormal stories... it's a mystery. There's a serial killer on the loose. Unfortunately the serial killer is pretty much easy to guess. The only real reason why the serial killer was difficult to find for the psy lead was becuase she was conditioned earlier on. OR maybe I'm deluding myself in that.

The next mysterious thing is how a very powerful psy have no designation. That other story clue I also guessed half way through the second chapter. So honestly, this book isn't really for its suspense or the twists.

It is however worth it for the world building. There were a lot of technical moments when the psy lead, Sascha, tried to explain the PsyNet (the network of psychic minds termed the "hive" by some non-psy people), but it was supposed to be technical and the mechanics of it was well thought out.

The entire heirarchy of the psychic communtiy, as well as the changelings (Nalini Singh's term for shifters, not the changelings of the fae) was where the world building was at strongest. (And of course the PsyNet theories). Especially since this was futuristic but doesn't spiral into predictable warewolf/shifter heirarchies.

Not an instant favorite, and not something I'd be re-reading any time soon. But I would be on the look out for her next books.

This book definitely has everything to keep you hooked on reading books by Nalini Singh! Characters who are real and flawed and perfect, a plot that keeps you guessing and a premise that challenges the intellect. Not to mention the romance and the passion. What more can I say?!
