Richest family in the world tries to seduce young musician to join them as husband to young heiress. Fast read, lots of puns, surprising plot.

I second bibliophage. This was an abomination--poorly written, juvenile (but not in the good, Heinlein's early books way), and monumentally disappointing.

Gotta disagree with bibliophage on this one.
Parts of VS are pure Heinlein and parts are pure Robinson but one of the best things about the book is that parts of it seem to have been written while the two of them sat across the kitchen table from each other.
It's not the best novel ever written, heck it's not even the best Science Fiction novel ever written but if you're a Heinlein fan who learned how to read thumbing the pages of "Red Planet", "Have Spacesuit, Will Travel" etc. then you owe it to yourself to read Variable Star.

This is just awful - a weak but authentic Heinlein outline, done over as fannish reenactment.

Neither Heinlein nor Robinson could have written anything this bad alone.
