He writes a wonderful and compelling story, filled with action and danger. The message of the book works on several levels, and he thinks about the science of what he writes about too (even if he conveniently ignores the usual scientific show stoppers).
This book works on many levels, and is one of my favourites in the genre.”
“What's a slave boy to do when he's bought by a cripple who is more than he seems on a planet far from Earth? And what's an old cripple missing an eye and a leg to do with a pure blooded human child who can't remember who he is even under hypnosis?
It doesn't take long for Thorby to learn to trust his Pops, but he doesn't learn just how much the older man was doing until he finds himself alone and a fugitive. Thank goodness he is quick witted and one of the Free Trader ships happens to be planetside when Pops loses his head.
This is one of my early sci-fi reads that I return to on occasion because it is simply a great story.”
“Kiplng's "Kim"! One of Heinlein's best from the old days.”

Boy who is sold as a slave on a disreputable world. Old one legged beggar man who rescues him. The boy grows up and has adventures while trying to find out more about where he came from. A really great story!”
