However, this book tries to tell the story from Rhett's perspective and to try to explore his roots and what formed his personality during his formative years. It was incredibly boring and inaccurate and I only read half of...” see full review » see other reviews » |
“I'm enjoying the book. Much different from Gone With the Wind. Much more Civil War history about the South.”

While it is true to the story line of GWTW the quality of writing does not come close. It reveals very little that the reader of GWTW did not already know about Rhett. While it was entertaining and nice to revive my love of Rhett and Scarlett I wasn't sold on his story. It gave me no cause to feel empathy for his character. No emotion. Believe me I love the tall, dark, handsome Rhett in GWTW-but fiddle dee dee this book is not worthy of his good name!”

I gave it for stars for the Rhett and Scarlett storyline, alone. McCaig i found did a great job of showing what was going on in Rhett's head throughout the story. As far as the other story lines, Rosemary, Ravenal, Tunnis and more...they were quite boring and it almost made me go to sleep. Still read it if your a Gone with the Wind fan...would love to see what they would do with a movie!”

Scarlett was a dissapointment-- too much Alexandra Ripley's characters, not enough plot-- this was a delight. McCaig allowed himself a voice, thus giving Rhett one, too. This is not the story of Scarlett after the "damn," but why Rhett chucked out the "damn" in the first place. By centering this work on a character Mitchell underdeveloped, he give the GWTW fan another aspect of the story and the ability to enjoy a "sequel" without feeling like Mitchell's throwing rocks down from Heaven. ”

It definitely wasn't as good as Scarlett and Gone with the End, but I liked it”
