Cast of Characters
- Martris Drayke: The protagonist, commonly known as Tris, is the exiled Prince of Margolan and a Summoner who is the mage heir of Bava K'aa.
- Carina Jesthrata: A healer, she is cousin to Kiara and sister of Cam. She strongly believes in Tris' quest, and is a close friend of his.
- Kiara Sharsequin: The Princess of Isenfort, she has joined Tris in his quest and is very close to him.
- Jonmarc Vahanian: A mercenary, skilled in fighting and trading, he supports Tris' quest and is a strong friend to Tris.
- Riordan Carroway: A master bard, he wholly supports Tris' cause and has been a good friend to him since childhood.
- Gabriel: A vayash moru who supports Tris' quest and is trusted among the Sisterhood.
- Ban Soterius: A strong soldier, he has been a friend to Tris since childhood and supports his cause wholeheartedly.
- Mikhail: A vayash moru who supports Tris' quest.
- Staden: The King of Principality, he is the father of Berwyn and a supporter of Tris.
- Berwyn: Princess of Principality, she is referred to as Berry by friends and is the daughter of Staden.
- Royster: A librarian in the Westmarch Library, he is currently visitor in Principality and is a close friend to Tris.
- Taru: A Sister of the Sisterhood, she supports Tris' cause and was once Bava K'aa's assistant.
- Sakwi: A land mage who supports Tris.
- Nyall: A boatsmaster living near the Nu river.
- Tov Harrtuck: A seasoned soldier, he is a close friend of Tris and a strong supporter of his quest.
- Jolie: The innkeeper of Jolie's place, she is a good friend of Vahanian.
- Alyzza: A powerful hedgewitch who is agains King Jared of Margolan and supports Tris.
- Foor Arontala: A Fireclan mage and vayash moru, he is in service to King Jared and is trying to raise the Obsidian King.
- Sahila: A farmer who is a leader of Margolan refugees in a revolt against Jared.
- Riqua: The second oldest vayash moru of the blood council, she was once the wife of a wealthy trader.
- Elam: Head sister of the Sisterhod, she was a good friend to Bava K'aa and was her successor.
- Jared Drayke: King of Margolan, he is Tris' brother and close to Arontala. He has pushed Margolan to a point of destruction, with high taxes and ruthless guards. He will stop at nothing to destroy Martris.
- Elana: A vayash moru brought over by Riqua.
- Astir: A vayash moru working in Jolie's place.
- Bava K'aa: The spirit of Tris' grandmother, she was a great sorceress and Summoner.
- Hant: The head tracker of Principality's Army.
- Landis: The second strongest Sister, she would be Elam's successor if she died.
- Alaine: Landis' assistant, she was one of the few Sisters who survived one of Margolan's raids in a citadel.
- Theron: A Sister living in the Principality citadel.
- Tadrie: A farmer who was Lessel's brother.
- Andras: A soldier who was loyal to King Bricen and deserted when Jared stole the throne.
- Tabb: A soldier who was loyal to King Bricen and deserted when Jared stole the throne.
- Pell: A soldier who was loyal to King Bricen and deserted when Jared stole the throne.
- Kait Drayke: The spirit of Tris' departed sister.
- Ric: The spirit of Carina's lost betrothe and Gregor's brother.
- Viata Sharsequin: The spirit of Kiara's mother.
- Hashak: A man who was loyal to King Jared.

- Esme: A healer who was healing the farmers revolting against King Jared.
- Alyssandra: Known as Alle, she was a barmaid of Lemus' Inn and was helping the farmers revolting against Jared.
- Aeron: A Margolan captain who sided with King Jared.
- Lemus: An innkeeper who supported the Margolan revolt.
- Kae: A healer who lived in Lemus' Inn and helped heal the farmers hurt in the revolt.
- Kelse: A farmer who lived in Principality.
- Tabar: The spirit of a man who committed suicide in Principality.
- Hanre: The spirit of a silversmith who once lived in Principality and was murdered by his business partner.
- Abelard: King Bricen's ambassador of Principality.
- Rafe: The oldest vayash moru of the blood council, he is said to 'be swayed only by reason, and is given to knowledge'.
- Astasia: A vayash moru of the Blood Council who was once the daughter of a wealthy landholder.
- Uri: A vayash moru of the Blood Council, he was a thief and a highway man in his life.
- Tamaq: A vayash moru brought over by Rafe.
- Malesh: A vayash moru brought over by Uri.
- Cailan: A young vayash moru brought over by Astasia.
- Laisren: A vayash moru who worked with the Sisterhood.
- Nascha: A Margolan man who was a refugee from one of the destroyed cities.
- Curane: A lord who followed King Jared.
- Latt: A land mage who was working with the Sisterhood in Margolan.
- Dorran: A captain in Nargi.
- Danne: Brother-in-law to Soterius.
- Coalan: The son of Danne.
- Anyon: The grounds keeper of the Soterius house.
