An okay read. Very slow at the beginning, but picks up somewhere in the middle.
Courtney Maitland's role is probably not needed - I don't think it contributed towards anything.
And my favourite couple was not the hero/heroine, but rather one of the supporting pairs. So go figure.

Dear ripmybodice readers, a very special treat. On account of the fact that the book I am about to review revolves around the heroine’s day job (a successful broadway actress (as opposed to her night job which is The Whiny, Naive Adultress/Mistress to Michael Valente or until she married him and thus becoming The Whiny Naive Former Adultress/Mistress to Michael Valente)), I have decided to review this book to the tune of “Someone to Watch Over Me” (the Ella Fitzgerald version).

Not my usual genre, but I adored it.

A great murder mystery with two beautiful romances as sub plots. The stroy is intriguing and keeps you guessing till the very end,

To the rest of the world, Leigh Kendall had it all - a brilliant acting career, wealth and a perfect marriage to the handsome and aristocratic Logan Manning. But everything will change when her husband is murdered the day after her thirty-fifth birthday. As the mystery of his death deepens, Leigh finds herself drawn into a web of lies, treachery and intrigue. Now the queen of Broadway's perfect life appears not so perfect after all, and as she unravels the truth about her husband, she slowly realizes that the people she once called friends are not for real. Then enter Michael Valente.

Fourteen years ago, he came to her rescue. Secretly, he has harbored feelings for her, but he knew that he would never be good enough for her, and so he let her go. Now when their paths cross again, Michael knows that fate has given him a second chance. But can he convince the woman whose perfect life has been shattered, the woman who has forever haunted him to take another chance at love?

SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME is another enjoyable read though not on par with PARADISE and PERFECT. The premise of the story is good; the mystery and suspense is at times gripping, and the story of a love lost and rediscovered is quite heart-melting. I loved Leigh and Michael - in fact, I absolutely loved Michael! I thought he's one of the most perfect heroes I have ever read of - nearly coming close to Matthew Farrell. And that says a lot because I have put Matt up on a pedestal! I adored how much Michael loved Leigh. My heart just melt when his aunt told Leigh of his sacrifice because he thought only the best pears would do for Leigh. You'll understand once you've read it. I could go on and on about how wonderful Michael is, but I will sum it up: he is a man of strong conviction, a man who will do everything for the woman he loves and who will make her feel loved.

I enjoyed every single moment that they're together, and truly wished that Ms McNaught concentrated more on developing their characters and focusing on their romance, instead of including a subplot that took up a quarter of the book. I guess I kind of felt cheated that I didn't get to read more about Michael and Leigh. Had their relationship been more fleshed out, I believe that this could have rated as high as the previously mentioned books.

Nevertheless, I still considered this a good read. It started off a bit slow, but it was worth the time if only for Leigh and (sigh...) Michael.

This is a new genre that I have taken in and come to love. It's considered a romance, but it definitely has a mystery involved as well.

Classic Judith McKnaught contemporary storyline, although I was hoping for better...

After so many years of waiting I really expected better writing. Anyone just discovering JM probably would not find any fault in this one..... I believe some of her "true-blue" fans have probably waited so long that they would be happy with anything written from her pen. I on the other hand am not. I've been a fan of Ms. McKnaught for years (own every last book she has ever written) I LOVE her historicals and straddle the fence with her contemporary's (although I must say I like her older contemporary's better)but Man oh Man did I expect better and my goodness the book is HUGEEEE!!!! (a lot of wasted paper if you ask me)

Why is it that in mainly all of her books the main characters are BEYOND Rich? I mean ridiculously so... Anyhoo on to my review. First of all the story seemed disjointed to me there were flashbacks that really didn't pull the story together. You never really get to understand (in my opinion) what real type of relationship the Heroine had with her Husband. Then JM throws in this "conspiracy" plot (you'll know what I'm talking about when/and if you read the book) that had me by the end of the book asking myself "WAS THERE A NEED TO PUT THAT IN THERE?" I can't tell spoilers when I do a review, but BOY do I wish I could go into detail about this thing that irked me.

The Hero, again was a "rags to riches" type guy (classic JM) who of course knew the Heroine from long ago and was in love with her way back when, but had to put himself together before he could enter into her life.... Sounds familiar huh? I truly wish that some of these Authors could change up their plots, just so you don't see it coming. The Heroine had no idea about her husband's life but she had been married for some time to this guy and about the only thing I did like about this book was the presence of Courtney Maitland (sister of Noah Maitland) from "Night Whispers" and Joe (the chauffer for Meredith and Matt) from "Paradise".

If you can wait for it on paperback I encourage you to do so or wait until the price goes down because had I spent the retail price I would be upset. If you want to read some of her better work check out "Double Standards" as well as "Paradise"

This is a compelling read from Judith McNaught. It deals with revenge, romance, and plenty of action. This is a must read!
