This is a terrific series! Clara the emerging artist specifically - and Armand Gamache especially. I hope to see many more in this series.

I enjoyed this very much. Suspenseful, surprising and hard to put down. The usual cast of funny quirky characters and interesting ideas, in a charming setting.

I love the setting of the village of Three Pines and all the people that live there. This was a fabulouos mystery that kept me guessing till the end and it also answered many of the questions I had from earlier books about Yvette Nichol and the Arnot case.

For some reason this series has become one of my favorites. This novel is just a little on the questionable side since it has to do with haunted houses, if you believe in them. The characters are so warm and real, especially the two men who have the bistro and bed and breakfast--hilarious! Good read.

Third in the series set in Three Pines and featuring Inspector Armand Gamache. While set in Three Pines, the focus was on the fallout from one of Gamache's earlier cases. Still well written, but not as engaging as the earlier books.

This is the third book of this series. I began with this one but I will definitely go back to read the others. Armand Gamache comes to the charming town of Three Pines in Quebec to solve a murder. The writing is descriptive and atmospheric. The characters are individual and eccentric enough to make them interesting. The Chief Inspector is insightful and must solve the mystery as well as find who is trying to sabotage his professional life.

Another "can't put down" book. I found this a downer of a story though. Full of betrayals. Can any of the relationships survive after this? Murderer found. Internal police politics out in the open. But nothing resolved. Foreshadowing of another relationship crumbling. Sorry I read this one.

Great story with characters from L Penny's first two of the series which takes place in Three Pines. Love Armand Gamache and Ruth, Clara and Peter, Olivier and Gabri...interesting development which will surprise you at the end! I'm sure there's more to come in this saga of the small town in Quebec.

As usual with a Louise Penny novel, I’m swept in right at the beginning. I lose myself in the book and ignore all that happens around me. It gets to a point where my children gently start pulling my t-shirt, and I look up and an hour has gone by…and I reluctantly have to put the book down and go back to real life. I hurry along just to go back to the book.

The usual characters are in the book, it was nice to visit with them again. You learn more about their personalities and you either develop an attachment to them or you realize that you judged them incorrectly. Especially with the what this book deals with: jealousy! How throughout time it grows into dislike and it festers until it blows into something horrid and uncontrollable.

Halfway through the book I had a suspicion on who committed the crime, but I couldn’t wrap my mind around why this person would want to do it, but it made so much sense in the end. Then you have Gamache is experiencing, he knows that he has traitor in his group but he wants to catch him in the act, and unbeknownst to him he’s putting the people he loves the most in danger. And then that’s when the crap hit’s the fan! Wonderful scene! Loved it!

What will happen next? That I won’t know until the next book is published…hopefully soon!(4.5/5)

REad in reverse order, but didn't matter much. As an earlier book in this character driven series-they get better. This one not bad-but didn't flow as well as next. You get good background on the character relationships-still good who psychological who donit.
