AS THE WORLD WARMS UP, THE FLOCK FEELS THE HEAT
The thrill ride wasn't over when Max and her flock of winged kids flew off into the sunset at the end of Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports. Turns out retirement's kind of boring for the flock--especially when the planet still needs to... read more

First she was watched.
In this breathtaking new story from the astonishing imagination of James Patterson, a girl has to save herself from an army assembled just to capture her- and maybe save the planet while she's at it.

Then she was threatened.
Maximum Ride is a perfectly normal teenager who just happens to be able to fly, the result of an out-of-control genetic experiment. Max and the other members of the flock- five kids who share her remarkable ability- have been asked to aid a group of environmental scientists studing the effects of global warming. The expedition seems like a perfect combination of adventure, activism- and escape from the government forces that are watching the flock all the time.

This is her final warning.
But even in Antarctica, enduring the harshest weather on our planet, Maximum Ride is an irresistible target in constant danger. For whoever controls her powers could also control the world.

This is a suspenseful book that keeps you begging for more, as it seems IMPOSSIBLE to put this book down, I have warned you, so read if you really please.

Characters edit see section history

  • Maximum Ride (Max): The 14-year-old leader of the flock, as well as the main character, she has taken it as her duty to help save the world. this was already stated in a previos charrie deal >:(
  • Fang: Max's best friend and second-in-command in the flock, also 14 with black hair, he gets a little too close to Brigid for Max's liking, though Fang has no idea why this upsets her. . .
  • Iggy: Iggy is 14 and the only blind member of the flock. He is often partnered up with Gazzy, which usually involves explosives, something these boys can't seem to get enough of them. Iggy likes to make bombs behind Max's back which gets on her nerves.
  • Nudge: At 11 years old, Nudge is the talker (and girly-girl) of the flock. Max sometimes comments on how her nonstop conversations can be a bit annoying at times. She and Angel are really close.
  • The Gasman (Gazzy): Known for his love of explosives and has truly messed-up digestive system, Gazzy is the 8 year old biological brother of Angel, who are the only members of the flock that are related. The blond-haired boy likes to be seen as brave.
  • Angel: The Gasman or Gazzy's biological sister. She can read and control minds and breath underwater. Angel is also really close to Total, who she rescued in the first book.
  • Max: Long blonde hair nice brown and tan color wings and Brown leather windbreaker. She is the leader of the flock and acts compassionate, but can also be very fierce. Very protective and will do anything to help her flock.
  • Total: A small black Scottie dog, Total is known for his motor-mouth (yes, he is a talking mutant dog) who the flock rescued from a School. He is especially close to Angel, because she was responsible for his rescue.
  • Dr. Valencia Martinez: Max's mom. Max dreamed of having her as a mom and then found out that she actually is. Dr. Martinez has another little girl named Ella and Max adores her.
  • Jeb Batchelder: Max's dad, though she doesn't really recognize him as her father. I mean, when you go from evil scientist to good guy back to evil scientist and then good guy once more, you can't really blame her for not trusting him. He saved her then left her then came back and said it was for her own good...To me it sounds like a certain vampire boy and a girl whose name bigins with a B
  • Dr. Brigid Dwyer: Brigid, also known by Max's sarcastic name "Dr. Amazing," she is a twenty-one year old scientist whom the flock met while in Antarctica. She is described as pretty and blond, and is often found flirting with Fang. Which made Max dislike her instantly.
  • Akila: The object of Total's affections, Akila is a pure bred white Malamute who is a part of the group of scientists in Antarctica.
  • Dr. Michael Papa: One of the leading research scientists of the International Earth Science Foundation, a part of the crew aboard the boat the Wendy K.
  • Melanie Bone: The crew's communications specialist
  • Bryan Carey: The crew's dive specialist
  • Emily Robertson: The crew's eco-paleontologist
  • Sue-Ann Wong: The crew's ice specialist.
  • Paul Carey: The ship's captain, navigator, and expert in South Polar wildlife.
  • The Uber-Director: The head of a company, though he is somewhat inhuman.
  • Gozen: The Uber Director's creepy assistant. He looks like he was made out of mismatched body parts sewn together, giving him a sci-fi Frankenstein sort of look.
  • Ari: An eraser that seems bent on the death of Max. He is the son of the scientist Jeb. He was later discovered in a previous book to be her half-brother.
  • The Voice: A voice that Maximum here's in her heard every now and then. Once, the Voice, was found out to be Jeb, but it seems that he can only do the Voice sometimes; he is not the Voice. The Voice generally gives info to Max to help her on her path to saving the world, and to give smart-alack comments every now and then.
  • UD: Uber-director. A series of glass building blocks containing human organs stacked together to resemble a human. It is controlled by a super intelligent brain and has a semi-human voice.
  • Brian Carey: Add a description of this character.
  • Ella: A girl that takes care of Max after she was shot by bullies in an earlier book. She was later found out to be Max's half-sister.
  • Kevin Okun
  • Gazzy: A literally gaseous child who has a knack for all things mischievous and explosive.
  • The Voice: A voice that is in Max's head whenever she doesn't want it to.
