Hundreds of square-rigged vessels listed aimlessly in San Francisco Bay, eerie for the mist that swirled up and over their neglected decks, through the gaping holes punched port and starboard by lumber scavengers who took what they wanted, then deserted the ships a second time, leaving them half-submerged in murky waters.
