This is a YA book, first in a triology. It is fantasy/magical genre. Thought I would give it a try after some reviews I read on KindleBoards but didn't like it. I love the cover though...:)

Loved this book, created a new mystery world within such a "mundane" event, the Renaissance Fair. Could have used a little more Sean and Keelie interaction gotten to know him a little more but lets hope that's in books to come.

After her mother dies in automobile accident, Keelie now has to live with her father, who travels with a Renaissance faire. Not only is Keelie having trouble adjusting to loss of her mother, she is having trouble fitting in with the other Renaissance characters, who all seem just a little different. Then she finds out she is half elf. Keelie finds herself guarded by a weird kitty and that she has elfin powers,

A book on self-discovery, Keelie Heartwood was thrown into her father's world after her mother died. At first she resented her "bio dad" for ever leaving them, but all was not what it seemed. In the Faire, a throwback to the medieval ages, she discovers that she inherited her father's power to communicate with trees and a potential to be so much more.

Keelie's story was basically straightforward but at times dragging when she was in a jumble of making up her mind whether or not she accepts her destiny or not. Supporting characters, i.e. her father, Zeke, Sir Davey and Raven, do their roles as guiding posts but some characters like Lord Sean and Elia are only there to fill in the necessary characters of love interest and arch nemesis - though Keelie's enemy is so much bigger.

The story leaves more for a sequel and I'm hoping that a lot would be straightened out.
