“Anything Ira Glass is cool with me! I bought this book last year and still seem to be reading it, but that's what great about this book; there are so many different stories that you don't need to read the whole book at once. Though I have a ways to go, it's already one of my favorites!”

“EXCELLENT! My only complaint would be that one article was boring and irritating to read, and a few weren't really up my alley so I had to push myself to finish them. If I were the type to skip ones that didn't grab my attention pretty quickly, then the book would have been a smashing success. The rest of the articles selected for the book were fabulous!”

“This book is an amazing collection of essays and short non-fiction. The authors are some of the best. My favorite essay... "Losing the War". Amazing!”

(Just skip the ones that don't appeal.)”

There was only one article in the collection that I didn't bother to finish (the finer points of poker) and another I didn't really enjoy (the awful British soccer fans) but all the rest were worth the read.”

“I should have been analyzing these essays for what makes the writing special; it is, after all, my craft I would be strengthening. But the pieces were so interesting and I learned so much (about subjects as diverse as Saddam Hussein, cattle ranching and teen-agers playing the stock market) that it was hard to focus on how they were put together. (Not exactly the end of the world. NEXT time I read "The New Kings," I'll pay better attention to the technique.)”
