This book speaks to our basic needs (eating) and what our government does to make our mass produced food downright disgusting.
Salatin has the scoop on food bureaucrats with his experiences trying to keep things local and quality bound.

    I find myself nodding my head in agreement as i read this... the entire idea of the government regulating how I choose to feed my family is just stupid. Mind your own business!

    This book brings to light the bureaucratic struggles that the average farmer must endure to bring fresh and local food to their community. Unfortunately most regulations are put in place to try and force small producer out. Most people would consider their choice of food a personal decision. Everyone should really think about where they are spending their money and what kind of business practices you are enabling. (PS I do have very different views on some subjects, such as abortion,that Salatin commented on though I think in an ideal (and democratic) world there is room for us both!)

    This is the true story of a farmer trying to raise food naturally and sell it in America. He meets government opposition at every turn. He is told he cannot build a house under 900 square feet on his own land or sell chicken outside his own state because his facilities are not federally inspected. A great book for anyone who wants to know the problems a small farmer faces.
