In a South Carolina town called Yonwood, fiery visions of the future come to a woman. She is named the Prophet of Yonwood and becomes highly respected in the town. The citizens cling to the woman's so-called visions from God, waiting to see what will happen to their terrorist threatened country.

Nickie Randolph, an 11 year old girl, visits Yonwood with her aunt after the death of her great grandfaughter hoping to make his old house her new home. She starts to learn of the Prophet's vision and the strange ways of the town. She trys to fit into these ways and help the world by doing good things as she, along with the citizens of Yonwood, wait to see what becomes of the anticipated War of their world.
