The first part of this book is an essay that Bryson wrote for a magazine. It depicts a trip he took to the beach in Australia and it's absolutely laugh out loud till you choke-funny. The rest of the book precedes to become quite a bit drier, but his description of listening to a cricket match is priceless.

I thought this book was great. Good mix of current stories of his travels along with the history and fun facts about Australia. I would recommend it for anyone whose traveled to Australia, or who wants to for that matter. First book I read by this author, but am now reading another one of his books. His style is right up my alley.

I LOVED this book. This was my first Bill Bryson read and now I am hooked. This is a book I could read over & over again. I couldn't believe this was one of the textbooks for my Australia/New Zealand course.
