Amazon Best of the Month, May 2008: Stephenie Meyer, creator of the phenomenal teen-vamp Twilight series, takes paranormal romance into alien territory in her first adult novel. Those wary of sci-fi or teen angst will be pleasantly surprised by this mature and imaginative thriller, propelled by equal parts action and emotion. A species of altruistic parasites has peacefully assumed control of the minds and bodies of most humans, but feisty Melanie Stryder won't surrender her mind to the alien soul called Wanderer. Overwhelmed by Melanie's memories of fellow resistor Jared, Wanderer yields to her body's longing and sets off into the desert to find him. Likely the first love triangle involving just two bodies, it's unabashedly romantic, and the characters (human and alien) genuinely endearing. Readers intrigued by this familiar-yet-alien world will gleefully note that the story's end leaves the door open for a sequel--or another series. --Mari Malcolm

I find it /so/ interesting that you are Team Edward, but hate Jared! I don't know, Edward and Jared were very parallel for me. Mostly because Ian was such a total opposite from Jared. Just like Jake was a total opposite of Edward. Ian and Wanda's relationship came to be through friendship while Wanderer and Jared's came to be in a more swept up in the romance kind of way like the Edward/Bella relationship. So, I'm interested that you don't like Jared. I love how these books get us all twisty/turvy.

I'm also reading it. I'm being a little critical and testy, since it's my first time reading Meyer's book. But so far, it definitely hooked me in.

I'm reading it now, and I'm on page 200, and so far, I love the book! (I really hate Jered though...) I don't know what happens in the end... but I'm reading it like a maniac to find out!

I liked the book very much and I would recommend this book to anyone. In the beginning I did not know if I liked it because it talked about souls but in the end I loved it and I hope there are more coming out. She is a great writer and I have read all her books . I was very sad at the end when wanda got her own body because I felt like she wasa part of Melanie and that leaving her is like leaving herself like she is not her self anymore but a different (person)/soal. But other than that I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone:)

I loved this book so much! It was just great and I would recommend it to anyone. I would much rather to have seen it end with more finality rather than have the story be stretched into a trilogy.

I went into this book with a very crticial eye. I only read this to see if Meyer had improved at all in her writing from the Twilight series (which I enjoy). And she had! But that didn't even matter because Meyer sucked me into her world from the very beginning.

I loved this book. I was sad it ended. Though, it appears based on comments typed here that it is a trilogy in the works? That sounds like fun to me!

I had very mixed feelings about the ending, but I still love the book.

I find it interesting that so many comments were directed at the "sexual tension" that bothered the reader because they knew Meyer doesn't write sex scenes. I have to say, I was so caught up in the relationships between the characters that I certainly wasn't thinking, "What this book is misssing is a good ol' roll in the hay!" It was so much more interesting to watch the characters interact with each other in other ways.

I love this book, and will definitely be adding it to my Meyer collection when it comes out in paperback.
