“It would be difficult to follow up Silent in the Grave, and I had little hope that this second installment could live up to the first. Although I don't believe it was as good, it was still very enjoyable. The gothic setting, the characters, the gypsies, the mystery... it was still fresh. I was satisfied. This is another favorite. ”Allison (Rainy Day Reads) wrote this review Friday, October 25, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

“4 STARS Lady Julia has gone abroad to Italy to stay with her brothers (Lysander and Plum) to recuperate over the murder of her husband and her feelings for Brisbane. Lysander marries a young woman from south of Italy and they are summon back to England by their father for Christmas.
When she arrives in England she is soon face to face with Brisbane and his fiancee - who is everything Julia is not. But she does not have much time to think about it as Emma her cousin has been found in a room with one of the guests murdered...and she confesses it was her. Julia and Brisbane are put together again to investigate the real murderer.
Julia and the March family are back and back in full force! We finally get to meet Lysander and Plum and they do not disappoint. And harrumphed when Charlotte King was introduced as Brisbane's fiancee - but was cajoled when Julia and Brisbane still have chemistry. This was a great follow up to SILENT IN THE GRAVE. ”

“I called the first book a guilty pleasure, but there was no guilt in reading this one at all. It's a wonderful historical romance/suspense novel, and I can't wait to read book 3. Luckily for me, I own book 3, so I can jump right in. Great series--read them.”Karina W wrote this review Friday, November 25, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
