'I liked this a lot. Like Mike Carey's 'Felix Castor' books, I like the very matter of fact way the paranormal stuff is presented – it's perfectly normal for Jack to find suspects by dowsing, to use magical artefacts to access their memories and check for magical booby traps in exactly the same way as he does for bombs. Jack himself is an interesting anti-hero, a kind of supernatural Jack Bauer, totally focused on getting the job done and f*** anyone who gets in the way. This is considerably darker than the Castor books though, and a lot more violent. Very 24 meets Torchwood. It was quite short and very action-oriented – hopefully the next books in the series will provide a bit more characterisation. Will definitely read more. '
