The book I am reviewing is called “They Poured Fire on us From the Sky” by three cousins and brother. Benson Deng, Alephonsion Deng, and Benjamin Ajak. It is a fictional story of these 3 boys who escaped a civil war in Sudan that came to their tribe. I read this book sometime last year. This book is story of the challenge millions a Sudanese when civil war erupted. The book was well written and authentic.
The book takes place in Africa particularly in Sudan where the civil was come into a tribe where 3 boys live. Desperately trying to survive they find a way to escape hence starting the story of their journey to later U.S. The challenge varies to heat, thirst, and finding a way to survive. Even with all of the difficulties and problem the boys finds a way to continue. A will that I got inspired by to persevere in things I do. The boys get separated and later come together in US. I was inspired by their will and it should be inspiring to everyone because there are people today that do not appreciate what they have. The fact that the story is told from a person that went through it gives the story more organic feeling and made it more realistic. The part of the book was the parts when the boys had to find a will to go on and survive. The bad parts were times when they talked about things that were not necessary for the overall story which I felt like was waste of time.
The book was not written in a great way like it could have been like in classic books but the input the 3 boys but into the book made it a great way to look in their perspective. I think the point of the book was to inform people in outer countries the hardship faced by Sudanese people during this war. I think there are some people that have a misconception of Sudan Civil war that this book helps it clear all the questions. The point of view of the story was great, throughout the book the point of view changed from Benson, to Alepho, to Benjamin which tied the story together at the end. This was a book at that is interesting to read and people should read things because some people take the life they have for granted. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure or what to see a perspective of someone else.
This book was worth the time and it showed me life in different perspective. This book helped me know that the life I have today is something I should cherish and live with extreme gratitude because there are people in the world where such life is something to only dream about.
