Although slow to start, this book grabs you and you just don't want to put it down. The story revolves around a woman who is determined to become a doctor in 1900. Her struggles to finish medical school, after being disowned by her wealthy family, as well as open a clinic just for poor women show her to be strong and determined. Intermingled with a love story, it takes you from England to Africa and finally to the coast of California. It is well-written and a definite must read in my opinion.

Jennifer Donnelly does another magnificent job in the second book of the Tea Rose Trilogy. While one can most likely read this book without reading Tea Rose, elements from the first book are nicely explained in a condensed version. The storyline is fast paced, and has many other character plots. I really enjoyed this book, but was a little disappointed to see a redundancy of certain occurrences. Overall it was really good....can't wait for the final installment!
